The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) that was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has reportedly been a huge hit, with 18 lakh enrolments in the past eight months. The announcement was made by Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy last week.The scheme is aimed at building skill development amongst the youth in a way that compliments the Make in India campaign that is a novel and ambitious initiative of the Modi government. The announcement was made a few days after the Union Budget 2016 was presented. Rudy also announced that 50% of his skill budget will focus on job roles in rural area, reported the Times of India. ”We had conducted 410 kaushal melas across 29 states reaching out to many who needed a direction with respect to employability and employment,” Rudy said. He also said that his Ministry will take steps to further ensure increase in capacity and scope of skill development.

"We are making efforts to link skilling to education. Worldwide, people can do Ph.D and higher studies in skills like plumbing and welding," Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said in the Rajya Sabha.According to PTI, while replying to supplementaries, Rudy said there is a need to link skill to education, which has not been done in the past over six decades.The minister informed about the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana(PMKVY) by the government, which is a grant-model unlike 13,000 ITIs which is a paid model. The Ministry, he said, was also taking adequate steps to provide training to the women and widows.PMKVY is the flagship outcome-based skill training scheme of the new Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), which aims at skill certification. The reward scheme is to enable and mobilise a large number of Indian youth to take up outcome- based skill training and become employable and earn their livelihood.

Making one person in every family digitally literate is one of the integral components of the Prime Minister’s vision of a ‘Digital India’. National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) or Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (DISHA) envisages provision of digital literacy training to 52.5 Lakh persons, one in every eligible household of the country. Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and authorized ration dealers have also been included in this scheme. The objective is to impart basic ICT skills which would enable the citizen to use IT and related applications and participate actively in the democratic process and further enhance opportunities for their livelihood.

NDLM registrations cross 10 lakh mark!

A total of 11,55,958 candidates have so far been enrolled for training across the country, under Level 1 of National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) with support from the government. The highest number of 3,24,216 registrations have been carried out in Uttar Pradesh, followed by 2,23,036 in Rajasthan, 1,28,230 in Madhya Pradesh and 84,315 in West Bengal.

Non-Functional NDLM Training Centers To Be Suspended

All Training Partners are encouraged to start the processes of registration and training and conduct examination of beneficiaries under NDLM/DISHA in order to achieve the targets assigned to them. However, it has been noticed that many of the training partners have not even registered one candidate. The empanelment of such training partners will be suspended, in case, there is no progress till August 31, 2015.
